Message from the Major of Figueira da Foz

Considering Sport activity is one important component of young formation and one essential step for a healthy life, Figueira da Foz City Hall is seriously committed to promote sports.

It is with great honour and satisfaction that Figueira da Foz City Hall joins with the biggest orienteering event in Portugal during 2010 (POM2010), in joint organization with Clube de Orientação do Centro and Ginásio Clube Figueirense.

We are convicted that this big event, besides developing the region, engaging all the population in the open courses, contributes to enhance companionship values, solidarity and union among its people.

The option by Figueira da Foz is done with great responsibility but with conscience that it offers excellent conditions for orienteering and its people also offer unique sympathy to all the visitors.

Finally, for all the participants in this Portugal “O” Meeting I welcome you with sincere votes of personal and sportive success.

Message from the Organization

Welcome to Portugal O Meeting 2010!

Figueira da Foz, land of tradition, Fishermen and Farmers, meeting point of cultures. For many years the city has received a multiplicity of people looking for the beach, the sun and entertainment. The local population is used to welcome, doing it simple and kind, willingly and naturally.

When foreigners come, they put on their best clothes, at the table the best meals, a big and sincere smile at the face and, then, arms open to welcome who is arriving. With people like this, in a place like this, it’s simple to organize Orienteering events and welcome who’s visiting us. That’s what the POM’2010 organization wants and wishes to offer: pleasure in competition and enjoyment in the free time.

To all participants we leave the challenge to take the best out of the competition days, in the highest sportive spirit, and also to enjoy the best that the city has to offer. The Carnival parade (one of the most traditional); the restaurants and their fine cuisine; its Casino (which with its 125 years of existence is the oldest and most beautiful of the country); the landscape, the ocean, the beach and the mountain with its beauty, making it the “queen of the Portuguese beach” in the words of a known Portuguese writer.

Welcome then, and may the time spent together be pleasant and happy, because that’s what the organization is still working for.
